Why Volunteer?
Volunteers are the backbone of our unique program. Without them, we cannot provide this service to so many individuals. Through this experience, you are sure to gain skills, knowledge, and a sense of how important you can be to someone else. Making a new friend and watching them accomplish their goals because of your help can be life changing or even change your outlook on life.
Our volunteer team consists of a variety of people with many different talents and areas of expertise to support skaters both on and off the ice. Some might include, but are not limited to: high school and/or college students, teachers, figure skaters, hockey players, business owners/managers, human service professionals, therapists, nurses and other professionals.
Become a volunteer today by completing the registration form. On the first week of the season, volunteers will have a brief orientation where you will learn the history of Gliding Stars, basic understanding of the equipment used, important skills, weekly lesson formats, and general safety and season information. This orientation will be followed by a volunteers-only skate session that evening.
Volunteers are expected to complete the season with their paired skater, making every effort to be present each week, and assist your skater in showing off their hard work during the ice show. However, life happens, and we are busy people. If you have any conflicts with any of the dates on our schedule, please reach out and let us know as soon as possible—we will work with you and be understanding as long as you are respectful with our time.
Return the completed registration form to our PO box or email it to us. You may also bring it with you on the first week of the season, but we would still love for you to reach out beforehand so we know you're coming!
Skater Program
We are always looking for individuals to join the Gliding Stars of Erie family and skate with us. You or your loved one can become a skater in just a few easy steps.
Complete the skater registration form and submit it along with either a $50 non-refundable deposit or the full $150 season fee. Checks should be made out to Gliding Stars of Erie and mailed to our PO box, or you may bring your form and payment to the rink on your first week of skating.
During the first session in mid-September, skaters will be fitted for equipment and will not skate while volunteers will attend orientation followed by a volunteer-only skate. Regular skating sessions begin the following week.
Due to preparation for the annual ice show, registration for new skaters closes on January 1. However, new volunteers are always welcome throughout the season.
